1849 Backpackers

Awesome stay at 1849. Needed a quick bed for the night, call Abraham and he got us the last room.Really chilled place with everybody just doing their own thing. Room was clean and bed was comfy.Recommende for any weary traveller. And Abraham definitely deserves a bonus .

A beautiful place with even more beautiful people! Very central, with nice, tidy and clean rooms, comfy beds and the best staff and owner in the world! I loved my stay<3

Right in the city centre, affordable room, friendly staff. The pancakes every morning were a great way to speak to the other guests and we made many plans together thanks to that. The room was a little small for 6 of us and the beds weren't great but I spent a week here and loved it. Would definitely return.

Super friendly manager whose son showed us to our room and gave us the key! He then gave each of us a complimentary slice of a delicious lime tart on the house!Sure, parts of the backpacker hostel are somewhat run-down but this gives it history and charm and is evidence the place is well-loved. 1849 Hostel is the exact opposite of pretentious so don’t stay here is you are expecting five star.My family stayed here for a night after a long drive from Perth and we will definitely come back! It screams character and the long-term tenants were so friendly to my kids.We are so appreciative of everything. And we even had a couple of drinks at The Liberte which is ridiculously close-by! I think it was voted as one of the best Pubs in WA a while ago.

Very horrible place to stay especially with family. Booked 2 room but as soon as check in, we had to let manager know that room were not upto standard. Very unpleasant environment and smell stinky. Request for refund but denied. Had to find room for extra cost. Very rude staffs. They recon its a 3 star place but even dont look like a normal hotel. Never gonna book or recommend any one.

The room was clean and spacious, it was located in the heart of city, so restuarants or close attractions are just a walk away.The receptionist was friendly and played good music but the bathrooms were a bit crowded. Using shared washrooms wasn't a very pleasing experience, but the overall it was good stay.

The staff were very friendly, unfortunately people smoke right under the front verandas and this permeates the rooms, the rooms are small, simple and sparseNot worth it For the price , would have scored higher if everything didn’t stink of cigarettes, suggest smokers area at the back or out on the street?

Unfortunately I would not recommend anyone to stay here overnight, unless you're completely desperate for a bed to sleep on. Not suitable for families and young children. Loud music on weekends until 3am from a club downstairs. Party-goers screaming, slamming doors and throwing objects against the wall in the middle of the night. Not pleasant. Smells like urine, cigarettes and alcohol in the morning. Communal kitchen not convenient or centrally placed. You need to go outside past all the smokers on the patio. Kitchen is a mess. Most people do clean after themselves and there are cleaners that do their round but it gets dirty again quite quickly. There's about 7 fridges and they're all full and most things are overdue. Looks bad, smells bad. Most people there seem to be long term residents, which takes away the backpackers vibe. My 6 bed female dorm was fine. Girls were friendly and bed was adequate. Female bathroom was clean. So unless you're planning on staying in your dorm 24/7, I wouldn't recommend staying here at all. Reception was nice when checking in and out. Shame, because it's located near the waters in Albany and you have supermarkets and cafes all within walking distance. They can really do a better job to make the place more welcoming.
